PRESS RELEASE

Chamber music – Quatuor Diotima

September 25, at 6.00pm

Galle Face Hotel – Grand Ball Room

Free entrance

The group Quatuor Diotima, which chose its name to pay homage to the string quartet by Luigi Nono, “Fragmente Stille, an Diotima”, plays both contemporary works and late 20th Century classics from a traditional string quartet repertoire.

Founded by graduates of the Conservatoires of Paris and Lyon, Quatuor Diotima has performed in festivals and staged concerts all over Europe. Through its extensive touring, it has managed to gather an impressive following and to earn a solid reputation worldwide.

Quatuor Diotima's repertoire ranges from Haydn to various composers of our time, encompassing the Classical period, French Romanticism, the early Twentieth Century, and a selection of major works from the last 50 years.

The programme they will perform at the Galle Face Hotel on September 25th is composed by the Quartet n°7 of Franz Shubert, the String Quartet of Claude Debussy and “From my life”, written by the Czech composer BedÅ™ich Smetana.

Medical clinic in Pungudutivu, Jaffna –Another project funded by ALMAYUDA FOUNDATION

The SRI LANKA UNITES SCHOOL CLUB of St. John’s College, Jaffna organized a medical camp in Pungudutivu Maha Vidyalayam on the 14th of June 2011. This project was in view to get the communities involved along with the students in social projects.

About 430 people received medical help, from infants to elders, there were four doctors and four nurses who volunteered to work the whole day to make this project a success. They were helped by the students and the administrative staff of St. John’s College, Jaffna. Furthermore 307 people obtained prescriptions and free medication .The camp was very well appreciated by the general public, for a reason that the hospital in Pungudutivu is opened only twice a week, as such many people couldn’t afford to go to other hospitals.

PUNGUDUTIVU is a small islet, about 30 kilometers from Jaffna town and divided into 20 wards. Many of the residents either left this island or went overseas because of the civil war. Medical attention was neglected for many years due to this reason.

A spokesperson for the ALMAYUDA FOUNDATION is currently involved in many projects such as constructing toilets, cricket nets, and supplying uniforms to many schools. It is strictly a non-political and non-religious organization, as a matter of fact; there are many other initiatives which would be launched shortly to support the SRI LANKA UNITES CLUB.

The following four doctors and four nurses who volunteered to help in the medical clinic.

DOCTORS- Alfred Croos, Hyrin Arc, Pakeerathan and Ratnavasanthan.NURSES-    Vaitheky Murugesu, Dinogee Kandasamy, Suganthy Yogarajah and Jeyamohana.
